Energy consumption impacts on the enhanced greenhouse effect and also on an organisation’s budget. SCRAP’s energy reduction program works with students or your staff to conduct an energy audit and then to reduce energy use within the school/organisation. The Greenhouse Action energy poster (left) details ways in which we can minimise our greenhouse gas emissions. SCRAP's industry partners may also be called on to provide obligation free quotes to show how savings can be effected through retrofitting lighting using the latest technologies.
Materials Use and Management (MUM) WorkshopWaste and the environmental impact can be avoided and/or reduced through changing common practices such as purchasing and reusing items. This workshop assists the schools and other organisations to identify where environmental and financial savings can be made. It is delivered in conjunction with The Bower Reuse and Repair Co-op.
The Sustainable Schools ProgramSince its origin in 2000, this program has received much attention for its innovative approach to teaching and learning about sustainability. Based on a hands-on approach for students, the SCRAP Consortium (including our partners, Oz Green and The Bower) devised a method of auditing schools’ environmental performance, called the Eco Snapshot Day. From this the school is provided with a report and further work with participating schools leads to the development of Environmental Management Plans and the establishment of Environment Committees. Subsequently, the school may engage in further workshops designed to implement the changes recommended in the Environmental Plan. SCRAP and the Program Partners have run audit training for the NSW Dept of Education Environmental Education Centre (EEC) staff, teacher inservices through Councils and EE Centres, EcoSnapshot Days for individual schools as onsite training for teachers at other schools and to develop lighthouse schools in a council area. The full EcoSnapshot Day (Sustainability Program) consisting of an Induction Day; the EcoSnapshot Day (five audits - solid waste, energy, water and stormwater, biodiversity and grounds and materials use and management - in one day with your staff/students and our (5) staff) and a complete 50 page Sustainability Report delivered in a two hour Feedback Session to you will cost a minimum of $4,000 + GST depending on the size of your organisation.
SCRAP is currently re-working the EcoSnapshot to incorporate an artistic component for greater and lasting impact. We are also working with Oz GREEN to integrate with their YOUth LEADing the World program and this in turn, it is hoped, will attract funding to take the project to Latin America in the near future (see Programs and Home Page for La Chakana Verde details).
Please note that all individual workshops and audits (Solid Waste; MUM; Energy; Water; Biodiversity and Grounds) are costed at around $700 + GST but SCRAP is always prepared to negotiate with members on costings and the precise program required. |
